Writing about CHANGE

Last Thursday Mr West changed our timetable - instead of going to Jump Jam we played a game of soccer.  During writing this week we have been working on writing a recount about the change in our timetable.  You can read some of our published work below.

Week 1, Term 3

WELCOME BACK!

Welcome back to Term 3, we hope you had a great holiday and are ready to get back into learning.
This term we have an exciting new inquiry topic "Lights, Camera, take action for CHANGE".  We will be learning all about change and the different feelings people can have about it.

Timetable Change-up
On Thursday afternoon Mr West took Room 4 out for a game of soccer instead of taking them to Jump Jam.  He wanted Room 4 to experience change and be able to talk about their feelings associated with change.  Some people felt sad they missed out on Jump Jam, but others felt excited to play soccer.  Check out the photos below!

Term 2, Week 10

Wow, we have had a busy term!  We have had some exciting changes in Room 4.  Mr West has come back to teach in Room 4 for seven weeks.  We also got a new teacher - Miss Noble.  We were sad to say goodbye to Miss Savidan but luckily she has only moved to Room 9 so we can still say hello whenever we like.

Inquiry
We have been making models of a water reservior in Room 4 as part of our inquiry "To keep the flow of H2O, what's our way to go?"  Check out the photos of us making our models.

Procedure Writing (How to make Toast)

Today Room 4 was learning a fun and new exciting type of writing called procedure writing!

Miss Savidan let us make TOAST!!!

Before we started we discussed what equipment we needed to help us make the toast:

1 X Knife
1 X Toaster

We also discussed what ingredients we needed:

Margarine

Jam

Bread

Method: What did we do???

1: First we made sure we had all the correct ingredients and equipment!

2: Then we made sure the toaster was turned on
and plugged in.

3: Next we put the toast in the toaster and pushed the button down.

4: After that we waited for around 2 minutes until the toast popped up!

5: We then made a backwards 'C' with our finger to get the toast out of the toaster.

6: We then scooped the margarine out of the container and spread it onto our toast! Some of us just wanted our toast with margarine!

7: Most of us took the final step and put a big blob of jam onto our toast!

8: Finally we got to eat it!!! YUM YUM

Farewell to our Student Teachers from The University of Auckland and MIT

Last week Room 4 had the pleasure of having two student teachers from the university in our classroom!

Both of our Student Teachers were first year students and on their VERY first practicum.

We will miss both Mrs Adkins and Mrs Chand very much as they were so very helpful in Room 4 and even taught us a new maths activity!
Everyone extremely engaged in their Basic Facts!

Good luck to both Mrs Adkins and Mrs Chand for their future practicums, we wish you all the best and hope you enjoyed your time at SPS.

Here are some pictures of Mrs Adkins teaching Room 4 a fantastic new Maths activity called 'I love Maths'.
